Getting a private investigator license

Have you always wanted to have an exciting and well paid career? Then a private investigator job might just be perfect for you. You will work on finding missing persons, tracking cheats, and investigate crimes using the newest high tech equipment. After you’ve been in the game for a few yours, you’ll probably want to start up your own agency and be your own boss.

About private investigating

Private investigation involves lots of different missions from locating missing persons to the usual surveillance. The surveillance is the most common task for an investigator. They stay in a hidden place for hours and sometimes days on end, observing different places or persons. In order to make an effective surveillance they buy or rent the newest technology in video and voice recording. Sometimes they’ll be involved in rather risky cases where they have the possibility of being put in harms way, but will also be compensated for this risk.

It all starts with the training

In order to get a private investigator license, you should start taking a private investigator course. The price for a certified course varies between $300 and $500 and lasts about three months. If you have another job and don’t have time to take a full time course, you can choose to take an online or part time course. This will obviously take longer as you have less time to devote to it, but the end result is the same.

The advantage of a regular course is the fact that you can meet expert private investigators which will share their experience in real missions, which will speed you on your way to aquiring your private investigator license.

Advantages of having a private investigator license

After you get your license you will be able to find a job in a private investigation agency. It is well known that many of the private investigators wish to be their own bosses but if you are just starting out it may not be the best idea. Also, by joining a good agency, you’ll learn the secrets of the trade from the more experienced investigators in the agency.

After getting your private investigator license, you’ll likely get a job with a salary at around the $20,000 per year. However, working your way up in the field, and if you go out on your own, $100,000 per annum is not unusual for a private investigator to earn, so the rewards can be quite fruitful.
