Having the correct private investigation equipment for the job is a key function in retaining work as a private investigator. Although some companies that you may work with will supply your equipment for you, this does not mean that there may not come a time that you will need to have a piece of private investigation equipment that you do not have access to.

Making it a point to know where to find the best equipment is a good idea, especially if you are just starting out or do not have equipment of your own. Doing a simple search online will yield you many places that you can purchase private investigation equipment from. It is recommended that you locate a place that has reasonable prices and keep a list of what they have available as a quick reference.

Night Vision

Mainly used by policing agencies, and can be destroyed if mishandled. One important aspect to remember about night vision is too much light can damage it, so never use night vision goggles without dimming the light or eliminating light altogether.

Surveillance

Tracking Devices

Some private investigation equipment that may be needed at one time or another is GPS tracking devices, which vary in price depending on what you want. This private investigation equipment helps to track the location of a person or vehicle. There are tracking devices for mobile phones, vehicles and even hostage tracking devices. Tracking devices have become very useful to, and made popular by law enforcement officers and private investigators alike.

There is some private investigation equipment that is more pertinent and will be used more than others. Surveillance equipment of any kind should be taken care of, as it can be with you for your lifeline in the private investigator industry.
